My Philosophy of Student Learning

My philosophy of education allows me to feel confident and demonstrate the knowledge that not all students learn the same. Differentiated instruction allows all students access to their education at a level that is easily accessible to them. When planning assignments and instruction, I believe that it is important to consider each student independently as well as the class as a whole.

Classroom instruction should be presented in a way that engages students and appeals to their learning style. Incorporating different graphics and print outs allows students to have copies of what they are learning and can be consistently and easily reviewed. Learning goals should be displayed in creative ways around the classroom and referenced when beginning a lesson.

Through this way of thinking, I can incorporate different strategies of teaching that allow students to

utilize their senses and play an active role in their learning. I believe that providing opportunities for

a variety of projects and learning experiences help students feel more involved and engaged in their

education and ultimately build up their confidence.

Students goals are displayed in the room for the year so that come the end of the year, students can track their progress.

Students' personal interests can also be connected to what is being taught. I believe that building up what a student might find interesting, such as a subject topic or sport or animal, can promote further engagement and excitement about learning. Displaying what students have accomplished and achieved in the classroom and in the hallways can help personalize the learning environment.

The theorist Jean Piaget developed the Theory of Cognitive Development which explained how children grow throughout their lives in areas of interpreting and understanding. In adapting this theory to my own understanding, I believe that students grow throughout their education and possess different levels of comprehension. With this in mind, it is important to present information that is at the appropriate grade level for the students.
